As a Recovery Room Nurse I have taken care of a lot of hysterectomy patients. Those with both vaginal and abdominal. I myself have been contemplating having a hysterectomy for several years but have been hesitant due to the long recovery and pain that they experience. When I heard that Dr. Hartman had been perfecting the laparoscopic Hysterectomies and had taken care of many of his patients post op I knew this was the right time for me. I had experienced several years of severe cramping and had tried everything from lupron shots to hydrotherm ablation which neither were successful and had actually made my cramping worse. After having my own laparoscopic Hysterectomy I can tell you from personal experience that it definitely is the way to go. The recovery was not only very short but very minimal post op pain. The difference in recovering someone who has had a vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy versus a laparoscopic hysterectomy is like night and day. They experience much less pain and can leave the hospital quicker. It has been for me a godsend. I can honestly say I haven't felt this good in years. For me it was a very painless experience.

This is in response to the survey sent to me recently. I would like to say that I am thrilled with the surgery and tell anyone who is contemplating a hysterectomy to consider a laparoscopic hysterectomy.

In answer to the questions:

Have you had any bleeding more than 2 months after the procedure? How much? How often?

None, Nada, Zip Hooray!! My husband is very happy.

Do you have any comments on your recovery?
I had minimal pain and only took a couple of pain pills. The recovery was very quick and I could have gone back to work 5 days after surgery (I waited 7).

I really was trying to avoid major surgery (abdominal or vaginal hysterectomy) when I asked what I could do about my very heavy periods. I felt with my previous C-Sections that the vaginal hysterectomy would not be a good option, although I never asked a physician. When I found out I could have a hysterectomy by laparoscopy I was thrilled. I was surprised that I didn't need a preauthorization from my insurance company. If I had known that I didn't need to fight for the operation, I would have had it done years ago.

I was surprised The pre-op bowel prep was not as bad as I feared.

I needed a procedure done that wouldn't keep me down for 3 weeks this was perfect for me. I felt great on the 3rd day after the surgery.

I couldn't be happier with the results and especially the recuperation time. I couldn't believe how pain free it was. I never took pain pills or had any bleeding what so ever.
